Israeli Hi-Tech Sector Sees 9,500 Layoffs Amidst AI Concerns
In the first half of 2026, approximately 9,500 employees were laid off from Israeli hi-tech, technology, and startup companies. This development was analyzed by senior career consultant Hayut Yogev, who highlighted that software developers, quality assurance engineers, product managers, marketing and communications professionals, and customer support specialists were among the most affected. A survey conducted among 100 laid-off employees revealed that the growth of artificial intelligence has led about 30% of respondents to reconsider their future in the industry due to fears of further layoffs. Yogev estimates that 65% of those laid off will seek similar positions within the hi-tech sector, while 20% may transition to different professions or industries, with some opting for self-employment.
