Indiana Agriculture and Technology School to Open in Montezuma, Replacing Closed Elementary
A new charter school focused on agriculture and technology education is set to open in Montezuma, Indiana, for the 2026-2027 school year. This development follows the decision by the Southwest Parke Community School board to close Montezuma Elementary due to declining enrollment and reduced property tax revenue. The Indiana Agriculture and Technology School, led by Executive Director Keith Marsh, aims to provide students from kindergarten through sixth grade with hands-on learning opportunities in agriculture, technology, and rural workforce development. The school will emphasize literacy and engage students with community leaders in agriculture for practical learning experiences. The University of Southern Indiana served as the charter authorizer for the school, which seeks to connect classroom learning with careers in farming, science, engineering, and technology.
