Springfield Memorial Hospital Enhances Lung Cancer Diagnostics with Robotic Bronchoscopy
Springfield Memorial Hospital, in partnership with SIU Medicine, has introduced robotic bronchoscopy to improve lung cancer diagnostics. This advanced procedure uses a flexible catheter to access hard-to-reach lung areas, allowing for precise biopsies with reduced patient discomfort. The technology is part of a broader initiative to enhance pulmonology services and increase access to lung cancer screening. The hospital aims to encourage screenings among high-risk groups, such as smokers and individuals exposed to carcinogens. The program has already performed over 400 biopsies, providing critical diagnostic information for treatment planning.
