Travel Industry Coalition Urges EU for Balanced Biometric Regulation to Enhance Air Travel
A new coalition, the Responsible Biometrics Travel Industry Coalition, comprising ACI EUROPE, Amadeus, IATA, IDEMIA Public Security, and SITA, has formed to advocate for a balanced regulatory approach to biometrics in air travel within the European Union. The coalition is calling on EU policymakers to ensure that the Digital Omnibus, a legislative proposal aimed at simplifying Europe’s digital rulebook, actively supports the voluntary and secure use of biometrics while safeguarding passenger choice and privacy. They emphasize that biometric verification can significantly improve passenger flows, increase throughput, and help airports manage peak periods more efficiently by reducing manual document checks.
