Financial Institutions Collaborate to Tackle Military Spouse Employment Challenges
A coalition of financial institutions, including Navy Federal Credit Union, PenFed Credit Union, and USAA, in partnership with Blue Star Families and the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families, has released findings from a three-year study on military spouse employment. The study, presented at the Military Spouse Employment Summit in Washington, D.C., highlights persistent employment challenges faced by military spouses, such as high unemployment rates and underemployment despite high educational attainment. The research identifies systemic barriers like frequent relocations and limited workplace flexibility that hinder career progression. The coalition has also developed a Corporate Employer Playbook, offering strategies for organizations to better support military spouse employment through mentorship, work flexibility, and career portability.
