U.S. Scientists Develop Vaccines to Prevent Colon Cancer in Lynch Syndrome Patients
Researchers in the United States are developing vaccines aimed at preventing colon cancer in individuals with Lynch syndrome, a genetic disorder that significantly increases the risk of colorectal and other cancers. Lynch syndrome affects about 1 in 279 people, and those with the condition are often advised to undergo frequent colonoscopies to detect and remove precancerous polyps. The vaccines in development aim to train the immune system to recognize and intercept cancerous growths before they develop into tumors. Currently, three potential vaccines are in development, with two undergoing early clinical trials in the U.S. and one in Britain.
