Macklemore's $1 Million Pledge Boosts Palestinian Aid Groups Amid Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis
Rapper Macklemore has pledged his net earnings from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour, totaling $1 million, to various Palestinian aid organizations. This donation follows his removal from the tour after making pro-Palestinian comments. The six recipient organizations include Medical Aid for Palestinians, Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). According to Tareq Hailat, director of strategic engagement at the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, the donation will be placed into an unrestricted fund, allowing for flexible allocation based on the evolving circumstances in Gaza. Alicia Phillips Mandaville, acting CEO of Anera, another beneficiary, emphasized the importance of this flexibility given the frequent changes in living conditions and operational rules. This is not Macklemore's first contribution; he previously pledged proceeds and streaming royalties from his protest anthems "Hind's Hall" and "Hind's Hall 2" to UNRWA, generating over $509,000 in support.
