Consumer Reports Warns of Shattering Oven Doors, Urges Safety Measures
Consumer Reports has issued a warning regarding the potential danger of shattering oven doors, following nearly 400 complaints between January 2025 and March 2026. These incidents, which resulted in approximately 40 injuries, have been reported to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The shattering is attributed to unseen micro-cracks in the glass, which can occur from actions such as slamming the door or placing heavy items on it. The issue spans multiple brands, including Frigidaire, GE, Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung, with Frigidaire accounting for nearly 70% of the complaints. Despite the reports, manufacturers have stated that their products meet current regulations, and no corrective measures have been announced. The glass used in these ovens is typically tempered, which reduces the risk of sharp edges when it breaks, but the force of the shattering can still cause injury or alarm.
