MaineHealth Faces Community Backlash Over Maternity Service Closure
MaineHealth, a Portland-based hospital conglomerate, is facing community backlash after deciding to close the maternity labor and delivery services at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. This decision has sparked outrage among local residents, particularly young mothers who have formed a group called Miles Delivers to oppose the closure. The local board of advisors voted to shutter the unit, but the decision was not unanimous, leading to the resignation of a longtime board member. The final corporate vote is scheduled for Thursday.
