Saudi Arabia to Lead ISO Committee on Wound Care Standards, Marking Regional First
Saudi Arabia has been appointed to lead the ISO/TC 357 technical committee, which is responsible for developing global standards for wound dressings and wound compresses. This appointment marks the first time a country in the region has chaired an international technical committee under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) collaborated to achieve this milestone. The SFDA will serve as the committee's secretariat, leading the technical work to establish international standards covering terminology, safety, performance requirements, testing methods, and safety controls for wound care products. The proposal for the committee was initiated by the SFDA in response to a global need for standardized wound care products, and it was approved after a comprehensive review process by ISO's technical and regulatory bodies.
