Storm Dave Disrupts Cricket Match at Durham's Riverside Ground
Storm Dave has caused significant disruption at Durham's Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street, leading to the cancellation of the third day of the County Championship Division Two match between Durham and Kent. The storm brought gusts of up to 70 mph, which resulted in damage to the stadium infrastructure, including a scaffolding platform holding a sightscreen that was blown over, damaging fencing and seating. Additionally, a wheeled cover was displaced, causing water to accumulate on the pitch, making it unplayable. Although spectators were allowed into the ground after 13:00 BST, no play was possible due to the wet conditions. The storm has also affected road and rail travel in northern areas, with numerous flood warnings issued. However, conditions are expected to improve as the day progresses.
