NYPD Utilizes Drones for Enhanced Shark Surveillance at Rockaway Beach
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has increased its surveillance efforts at Rockaway Beach using drones to monitor shark activity. This initiative comes in response to a rise in shark sightings, which have led to more frequent beach closures. The drones, operated by the NYPD's Technical Assistance Response Unit (TARU), are equipped with cameras that can spot shark silhouettes from the air. This technology allows for quick identification and response to potential shark threats, enhancing beach safety. The drones are also equipped with inflatable flotation devices for water rescues, providing additional safety measures for swimmers.
