When Will Fall Colors Peak? Your Regional Guide
Fall foliage season is approaching, with the first colors expected to appear as early as September across parts of the U.S. Peak timing varies by location and elevation, with northern states and higher elevations generally changing first before colors spread southward. New England typically peaks from late September into October, while the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest follow through October. The Southern Appalachians can offer one of the longest viewing windows, stretching into early November in some areas. In the West, elevation plays a major role, with Colorado, Utah, Oregon and Washington offering prime displays from September through October.
