UK Government Backs AI Company Ineffable Intelligence with Sovereign AI Fund
The UK government has announced funding for Ineffable Intelligence, a frontier AI company, through its £500 million Sovereign AI Fund. This initiative aims to support UK startups in the AI sector. Ineffable Intelligence, led by David Silver, a former head of reinforcement learning at Google Deepmind, is developing self-learning algorithms. The British Business Bank is co-investing with the Sovereign AI Fund. The fund, launched in April 2026, has already backed eight companies, including AI infrastructure startup Callosum. The Sovereign AI Unit, chaired by venture capitalist James Wise, is part of the government's strategy to position the UK as an AI superpower.
