Oak Ridge National Laboratory Unveils New Translational Research Facility for Quantum Computing, Batteries, and AI
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has opened a new 100,000-square-foot Translational Research Capability (TRC) facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This facility is designed to accelerate the transition of scientific discoveries into practical technologies, focusing on energy storage, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence (AI). The TRC brings together researchers from various disciplines under one roof, consolidating previously dispersed battery research and housing specialized laboratories. Among its features is a highly specialized battery manufacturing 'dry room' with extremely low moisture levels, crucial for developing advanced battery materials. The facility also hosts the Pathfinder quantum computing testbed, enabling closer collaboration among experts in computing, materials science, and engineering to advance quantum information science.
