EPA Awards $2.5 Million Grant for Cleanup of Camden's Former Yaffa Industrial Site
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a $2.5 million grant to facilitate the cleanup and revitalization of the former S. Yaffa & Sons industrial site in Camden, New Jersey. The 1.6-acre site, located at 6th and Chestnut Streets, has a history of automotive repair and illegal dumping, resulting in significant soil contamination. The funding will be used to remove approximately 11,000 tons of dirt contaminated with lead, arsenic, and PFAS, requiring excavation up to four feet deep to address underground contamination. Regional EPA administrator Michael Martucci, Camden Mayor Victor Carstarphen, and U.S. Representative Donald Norcross attended the announcement of the grant.
