Massachusetts RMV Initiates Email Alerts for Expiring Vehicle Registrations to Enhance Renewal Timeliness
The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) has announced a new initiative to send email reminders to vehicle owners about upcoming registration expirations. This program, which began on July 19, aims to encourage earlier renewals and reduce lapses in registration. The email notifications will be sent approximately 60 days before a registration expires, supplementing the existing mail notices. To receive these reminders, vehicle owners must have a current email address on file with the RMV. The emails will direct recipients to renew online at Mass.Gov/RMV, where they can verify insurance coverage, confirm their mailing address, and resolve any outstanding obligations such as unpaid parking tickets or toll violations. The RMV expects to send between 180,000 and 230,000 reminder emails each month.
