China Expands Caustic Soda Production to Meet Global Demand
China is set to significantly increase its caustic soda production capacity to meet rising domestic demand across various sectors, including alumina refining, battery materials, and cleaning product manufacturing. According to GlobalData, China will maintain its leading position in global caustic soda capacity additions through 2030. The expansion is driven by the country's robust manufacturing ecosystem and increasing downstream industrial demand. China plans to achieve this through seven upcoming projects, including the Jiantao Beihai Industrial Beihai Caustic Soda Plant and the Sinopec Qilu Company Zibo Caustic Soda Plant 2, which are expected to commence operations in 2026. Additional projects are slated to come online between 2028 and 2030.
