Gagosian Opens New Madison Avenue Space with Duchamp Readymades Exhibition
Gagosian is set to open a newly overhauled space on Madison Avenue in New York with an exhibition of Marcel Duchamp readymades. This event coincides with the Museum of Modern Art's new Duchamp retrospective. The exhibition will feature Duchamp's famed Bicycle Wheel, a version of Fountain, and a Boîte-en-valise, among other works. These pieces are from editions of eight, with varying numbers of works outside the edition. The exhibition marks a significant moment for Gagosian, as it follows the gallery's relocation within the same building after Bloomberg Philanthropies acquired the property. The new space expands on a bookstore and modest exhibition area that Gagosian opened in 2013. The exhibition is a nod to Duchamp's historical significance and his influence on contemporary art.
