Guyana Launches New Environmental Education Curriculum to Support Wildlife Conservation
Guyana has introduced a new Environmental Education Curriculum (EEC) for Regions 4 and 6, coinciding with the conclusion of the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme's Phase 2. This initiative, supported by the European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization, aims to balance conservation efforts with human development. The SWM Programme has engaged local communities in biodiversity monitoring, utilizing methods such as camera trapping and environmental DNA analysis. A regional AI model has been developed to identify 445 species classes, aiding in conservation efforts. The EEC, originally developed for Region 9, focuses on equipping children with the knowledge and skills needed to protect the environment.
