UK Energy Sector Faces Overheating Challenges Amid Climate Change Concerns
The UK energy sector is grappling with significant challenges due to climate change, as highlighted in a recent report by the climate APPG. The report warns that by 2050, 92% of existing homes in the UK could suffer from overheating. Additionally, 6.3 million homes and businesses are at risk of flooding, with coastal flood damage costs projected to increase two to three times by the 2080s. The rise of datacentres, particularly in areas like Slough Trading Estate, has raised concerns about their impact on local temperatures and resource consumption during heatwaves. The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has been approached for comment on these issues.
