Representative Gregory Meeks Affirms Support for Strengthening Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Representative Gregory Meeks, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam in New York on September 21, 2026. During the meeting, Representative Meeks affirmed his support for maintaining the positive momentum in Vietnam-U.S. relations and expressed a desire to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. President To Lam highlighted Vietnam's view of the U.S. as a leading strategically important partner and emphasized the importance of stable, substantive, and effective bilateral relations. Both leaders underscored the role of their respective legislatures in strengthening political foundations, enhancing mutual understanding, and building trust. President Lam also called for continued U.S. support in addressing war consequences, defense and security cooperation, and fostering people-to-people exchanges, including support for the Vietnamese community in the U.S.
