New York State CIO Implements Business-Like Model for Government Efficiency
Dru Rai, New York State's CIO since 2023, has implemented a business-like approach to government operations, resulting in significant efficiencies. Under his leadership, the state signed a two-year Enterprise Cloud Services Agreement with Google Public Sector, consolidating cloud services and enhancing security and analytics. This approach has saved taxpayer money and streamlined procurement processes. Rai's model includes embedding senior IT staff within agencies to improve alignment and responsiveness. The state's Joint Security Operations Center now defends numerous agencies and municipalities against cyber threats.
