Senate Confirms Key Nominees for Pentagon and Space Force Leadership Roles
The U.S. Senate has confirmed several key nominees for leadership roles within the Pentagon and the Space Force. Jules 'Jay' Hurst has been confirmed as the Pentagon comptroller, a position he previously held in an acting capacity. Hurst will oversee defense budgets and spending plans, focusing on passing a clean audit by 2028 and aligning budgets with evolving warfare needs. Additionally, Erich Hernandez-Baquero has been confirmed as the Air Force assistant secretary for space acquisition and integration, responsible for overseeing Space Force acquisition programs. This role was created by Congress in the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Hernandez-Baquero will manage a growing Space Force investment budget, which is set to increase significantly in the coming years. The Senate also confirmed Roger Mason to lead the National Reconnaissance Office, succeeding Chris Scolese.
