Dr. Mehmet Oz Alleges Widespread Medicaid Fraud in Maine
Dr. Mehmet Oz, the administrator of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, has claimed that a significant portion of Medicaid payments in Maine are fraudulent. Speaking at an anti-fraud press conference in Philadelphia, Oz stated that 90% of services billed in Maine lack justifiable documentation. He attributed the rise in fraudulent activities to the COVID-19 pandemic, which he believes allowed criminals to exploit the system due to reduced oversight. Oz's comments were made in the context of recent indictments in Pennsylvania, where 19 individuals were charged with Medicaid fraud. The Maine Wire, a conservative media outlet, reported on Oz's visit to Maine, where he investigated home support services for adults with autism. The visit followed the termination of a MaineCare contract with Paradise Residential Services due to health and safety violations.
