FBI Arrests Florida Man for Using Steam Games to Steal Cryptocurrency
The FBI has arrested Zyaire Wilkins, a 21-year-old Florida resident, for allegedly using malware-laden video games on the Steam platform to steal cryptocurrency from unsuspecting users. According to a criminal complaint, Wilkins and his co-conspirators uploaded several fake games, such as BlockBlasters and PirateFi, which contained malware designed to infect users' computers, steal their passwords, and drain their crypto wallets. The FBI claims that around 8,000 victims were affected, resulting in the theft of at least $220,000 worth of cryptocurrency. The games were marketed on platforms like Discord and Telegram. The investigation began in March when the FBI called for victims to come forward. Wilkins' residence was searched, and several electronic devices were seized.
