Drones Save Thousands of Fawns from Mowers in Switzerland
In Switzerland, volunteers have successfully used drones to save 7,590 fawns from being killed by agricultural mowers between April and July. This marks a new record, surpassing the previous year's efforts by over a thousand. Approximately 800 volunteer teams utilized drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras to locate fawns hidden in tall grass. The initiative, led by Rehkitzrettung Schweiz, involved extensive searches across 73,000 hectares of grassland. The operation was facilitated by favorable weather conditions and the training of new drone pilots, allowing for early intervention before mowing began.
