Greenville City Council Advances Woodruff Road Annexation and Approves Arena Funding
The Greenville City Council has given initial approval to six annexation applications, including a significant 135-acre parcel along Woodruff Road and Interstate 385. This annexation, which includes 87.5 acres of real property and 47.6 acres of right-of-way, would be the largest single annexation in the city's history. The area encompasses 19 commercial parcels, including the 60-acre Merovan Business Center and a Sam’s Club. The application utilized the 75% annexation method, with property owners representing 85% of the real property and 98% of the assessed value signing the petition. Concurrently, the City Council granted final approval to amend an intergovernmental agreement with the Greenville Arena District. This amendment facilitates the issuance of up to $60 million in capital improvement bonds to fund an estimated $282 million renovation of the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and its surrounding 12-acre campus.
