New Mexico Attorney General Seeks Return of Teen Forced Across Border by Foster Care Staff
The New Mexico Attorney General, Raúl Torrez, has filed a civil lawsuit against the state's Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) after a 15-year-old American citizen was allegedly forced to cross the border into Mexico by foster care staff. The incident occurred on July 6, when the minor was taken to a Texas border crossing and instructed to walk across the border to reunite with his estranged mother, a Mexican national previously deported on drug-related charges. The lawsuit seeks a temporary restraining order to prevent future similar actions without court approval. The teenager, who has a heart condition requiring daily medication, was left with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services after the incident. Despite efforts to communicate with CYFD, Texas officials reportedly had to return the child to his mother in Mexico.
