World Travel Tourism Council Reports $98.5 Billion Global GDP Contribution from Cruise Tourism
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has released a report titled 'Cruising for Impact,' which highlights the significant economic contributions of the cruise tourism sector. According to the report, cruise tourism injected $98.5 billion into the global GDP in 2024, with a total economic output of $199 billion. The industry supported 1.8 million jobs and provided $60.1 billion in wages worldwide. The report emphasizes the sector's role in supporting both direct and indirect employment, with over 1.4 million jobs supported onshore in various industries such as hospitality, transportation, and retail. Additionally, the report notes that $93 billion in direct cruise-related spending benefits local businesses, including small enterprises and micro-economies in port destinations.
