UK Government to Form Task Force for AI-Generated Content Labelling
The UK government is establishing a task force to explore the feasibility of labelling AI-generated content. This initiative follows a 2024 consultation that identified technical challenges in implementing transparency measures. The task force will propose best practices for labelling AI outputs, with an interim report expected in the autumn. The move aligns with the European Union's AI Act, which mandates transparency for AI-generated content. While some U.S. states have enacted similar laws, the UK has yet to implement such legislation. The task force aims to address concerns about the impact of AI on copyright and consumer awareness, ensuring that the public can distinguish between human and AI-generated content.
