Air Quality Alert Issued for South Carolina Due to Georgia Wildfires
An Air Quality Alert has been issued for several counties in South Carolina as smoke from wildfires in southern Georgia drifts into the state. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has announced that the alert will remain in effect until Thursday. The affected counties include Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lee, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Sumter, Union, and Williamsburg. The alert indicates that fine particulate matter in the air may reach levels considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
