Iowa Utilities Commission Denies Summit Carbon Solutions' Request to Expedite Pipeline Dockets
The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) has denied a request from Summit Carbon Solutions to consolidate outstanding dockets and expedite a hearing for its proposed carbon sequestration pipeline project. Summit Carbon Solutions, which aims to build a carbon sequestration pipeline across Iowa, sought to combine various dockets related to the second phase of its project and receive a definitive procedural path forward. The IUC, however, issued hearing schedules for two specific sections of the pipeline in Ida and Floyd counties, slated for February 23, 2027, and March 23, 2027, respectively. These dates are later than Summit's requested mid-December hearing. The IUC cited a pending lawsuit against Summit's permit for phase one of the project as a factor influencing the decision, noting it is 'part of the larger picture' impacting the dockets. Landowners opposed to the project also voiced concerns about the recent appointment of Jon Dunwell to the IUC, arguing his legislative past creates a conflict of interest.
