US Diplomat Urges China to Cease Threats Against Taiwan to Stabilize Relations
Raymond Greene, the top US diplomat in Taiwan, has called on China to abandon its threats and military pressure against Taiwan. Greene, who serves as the de facto ambassador as head of the American Institute in Taiwan, emphasized the importance of dialogue between China and Taiwan to avoid misunderstandings and stabilize relations. Despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties, the United States remains Taiwan's most significant arms supplier and international supporter. Greene highlighted the need for China to maintain open communication channels with all of Taiwan's political parties, especially those elected by the Taiwanese people. He believes that abandoning threats and military pressure would help ease tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
