Senegal to Host Historic Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games with Notable Ambassadors
Senegal is set to make history by hosting the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, marking the first time an African nation will host an Olympic event. The Games, originally scheduled for 2022 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will now take place starting October 31, 2026. The event will be held across Dakar and nearby towns, Diamniadio and Saly. To elevate the profile of the Games, organizers have enlisted prominent figures such as Senegal football captain Kalidou Koulibaly, social media influencer Khaby Lame, and French actor Omar Sy as ambassadors. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has also recruited 31 athletes to mentor young competitors. A significant feature of the Games will be the inclusion of a youth refugee team, a concept first introduced at the Rio 2016 Olympics. The IOC has been actively preparing for the event by training over 400 young Africans in event operations, logistics, and venue management.
