Australian Man Arrested for Alleged ISIS Propaganda Distribution
A 65-year-old Melbourne man, a Somali-born Australian citizen, has been arrested and charged for allegedly acting as a propagandist for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The man is accused of disseminating approximately 10,000 documents, messages, images, videos, and audio files related to executions and torture between 2018 and 2020. According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), he also allegedly provided information on evading law enforcement detection and instructional guides for planning and conducting mass-casualty attacks. Police state that the scale of extremist material he allegedly spread placed him among the top propagandists on the encrypted messaging platform he utilized. The material reportedly glorified extreme violence and promoted a hateful ideology designed to radicalize others. The man is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
