Los Angeles May Day Protests Highlight Immigration Sweeps and Economic Concerns
Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Los Angeles on May Day to protest against immigration sweeps, the high cost of living, and the war in Iran. The event, dubbed 'May Day Strong,' began at MacArthur Park and proceeded to City Hall. Participants, including community, labor, and immigrant rights groups, called for an end to corporate greed, immigration enforcement actions, and military conflicts. The protests were largely peaceful, although there were moments of tension with the Los Angeles Police Department. The demonstration also marked the 20th anniversary of the 'Day Without Immigrants,' a significant protest in 2006 against proposed immigration legislation.
