Massive Wildfires in France and Spain Force Evacuations and Threaten Major Cities
Massive wildfires in southwest France and eastern Spain have forced the evacuation of over 250,000 people, with flames threatening major cities like Bordeaux. The fires, fueled by shifting winds and dry conditions, have been burning out of control since midweek. In France's Gironde region, the blaze has consumed an area four times the size of Paris, prompting authorities to issue evacuation orders for several localities. In Spain, similar evacuations have occurred around Madrid and Valencia. The fires have created self-feeding firestorms, complicating firefighting efforts. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the situation as extremely challenging, with firefighters working tirelessly to contain the flames.
