Rochester Fire Department Introduces Sensory Bags in Emergency Vehicles to Aid Individuals with Special Needs
The Rochester Fire Protection District has officially equipped its emergency vehicles with Carter Kits Sensory Bags. This initiative, announced earlier this month, aims to provide support for individuals with autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs, or those experiencing severe anxiety or trauma during emergency situations. The sensory bags contain various items designed to help calm and assist these individuals, including weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, sensory toys, fidgets, and communication boards. Liz Robertson, an EMT-B with Rochester Fire, emphasized the department's commitment to helping children in times of need, stating that the successful assistance of even one child would fulfill their mission. The introduction of these kits is a proactive step by the Rochester Fire Protection District to enhance their response capabilities for a diverse range of community members.
