Hong Kong Activist Wu Chi-wai Granted Temporary Stay in UK Amid Immigration Concerns
Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Wu Chi-wai has been granted permission to remain in the United Kingdom for six months as a visitor. This decision comes after Wu, who was previously imprisoned in Hong Kong for over five years, faced immigration challenges upon his entry into the UK. Wu, the former chairman of Hong Kong's largest pro-democracy party, was charged in 2021 under a Beijing-imposed security law and sentenced in 2024 for conspiracy to commit subversion. His recent entry into the UK on a seven-day immigration bail raised concerns among rights groups and Hong Kongers in the UK. Wu expressed relief at being allowed to stay longer, enabling him to reunite with his family after years of separation.
