Nonprofit Initiative Offers $1,000 Monthly to AI-Displaced Workers, Aims to Expand Support
A new initiative, the AI Dividend program, is set to provide financial assistance to workers displaced by artificial intelligence. Co-led by the nonprofits AI Commons Project and What We Will, the program offers $1,000 monthly payments for six to twelve months to a select group of 25 to 50 workers initially, with plans for expansion. The initiative also includes resources for skill development, such as reskilling and upskilling programs, AI training certifications, job coaching, and interview support. Applicants must submit a form detailing their job title and how AI has impacted their work, along with a statement on how they plan to use the funds. The program aims to address the immediate needs of workers affected by AI, providing a safety net as the labor market evolves.
