Tropical Wave and Gulf Low Pose Rainfall and Wind Risks
A 1012 mb low-pressure system, designated as AL97, is located in the north-central Gulf of Mexico near 28N 89.5W. This system is drifting westward at 5 knots and has become better organized, with winds of 20-25 knots in its northeastern quadrant. A Gale Warning has been issued as the system has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm before reaching the Upper Texas or southwestern Louisiana coasts by Tuesday or Tuesday night. Meanwhile, the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly are producing bursts of showers and thunderstorms across Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the northeastern Caribbean. This tropical wave is moving westward at 20 knots and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds to Hispaniola and eastern Cuba in the coming days.
