Linux Usage Surges to Historic High in U.S. Internet Traffic
Linux, traditionally a niche operating system for consumer PCs, has seen a significant increase in its market share in the U.S., reaching around 10% of internet traffic from July 4 to August 1. This surge, reported by Statcounter and corroborated by Cloudflare, suggests a doubling of Linux's typical market share. However, when Cloudflare applied a 'likely human' filter, the share dropped to 6.4%, indicating that the increase may be driven by automated web activity rather than human users. The rise in Linux traffic could be attributed to increased activity from large web services or the growing use of AI agents.
