South Carolina Honors High School Seniors Committed to Military Service
The South Carolina Department of Education held a ceremony at Fort Jackson to honor high school seniors who have committed to joining the military. State Superintendent Ellen Weaver led the event, presenting each student with a Military Honor Cord as a symbol of their dedication to service. The ceremony celebrated the students' choice to pursue a path of duty and sacrifice, recognizing their commitment to the nation. The event also highlighted the achievements of Maj. James Capers Jr., a Bishopville native set to receive a Presidential Medal of Honor for his service in Vietnam.
