EU Expresses Concern Over Tunisian Court Rulings and Human Rights

These rulings are part of what is referred to as the 'conspiracy against state security' trial, which has resulted in lengthy prison sentences for numerous political figures, activists, human rights defenders, and journalists, including EU citizens. The EU highlights ongoing questions about whether fair trial guarantees were fully respected in these proceedings. The European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU's diplomatic service, emphasizes the importance of upholding human rights, freedom of expression, and the right to a fair trial in its ongoing dialogues with Tunisian authorities. The EU also condemns the use of communications with accredited diplomats, including European diplomats, as a basis for accusations or evidence against the accused in these trials.
