Italy Prevents Russia-Linked Cyberattacks Targeting Winter Olympics and Foreign Ministry
Italy has successfully thwarted a series of cyberattacks that were aimed at its foreign ministry offices, including one located in Washington, as well as websites and hotels associated with the Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This announcement was made by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during his visit to the U.S. capital. The attacks, which were identified as originating from Russia, were intercepted just days before the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics at Milan’s San Siro stadium. The Italian government has taken significant security measures, deploying 6,000 security officers across the Games sites, which span from Milan to the Dolomites. These measures include bomb disposal experts, snipers, and anti-terrorism units to ensure the safety and security of the event.
