Lloyd Center in Portland Closes, Paving Way for Major Redevelopment
The iconic Lloyd Center in Portland, Oregon, closed its doors on August 8, marking the end of an era for the city. The mall, which opened in 1960, has been a significant part of Portland's history, serving as a gathering place for generations. Urban Renaissance Group, the company behind the redevelopment, plans to transform the site into a mixed-use neighborhood featuring housing, retail, parks, and public spaces. The Portland City Council has approved the Lloyd Central City Master Plan, allowing the redevelopment to proceed. The closure has evoked nostalgia among Portland residents, many of whom visited the mall for one last time to reminisce and make final purchases.
