Detroit Valedictorian Living in Homeless Shelter Receives New Home from City
LaTaeya Crowder, a 14-year-old valedictorian from Detroit, and her family, who had been living in a homeless shelter, were gifted a new home by the city. LaTaeya had recently gained attention for achieving academic excellence despite her challenging living situation, finishing eighth grade at the top of her class and being accepted into Cass Technical High School. Her story, which highlighted the struggles of living without a stable home, was featured on FOX 2. City officials, upon seeing the segment, took action to provide the family with a house. The surprise was revealed on McKinstry Street, bringing an emotional end to their period of housing instability. LaTaeya's mother, LaTonya, expressed immense gratitude and relief at signing the lease for their new home.
