NYC Plans Rezoning South of Prospect Park to Address Housing Needs
New York City is initiating a rezoning plan for neighborhoods south of Prospect Park in Brooklyn to facilitate new housing development. The plan, known as 'South of Prospect,' targets commercial areas along Coney Island Avenue and McDonald Avenue, which currently have outdated zoning that limits housing construction. The initiative aims to create thousands of new housing units, including income-restricted options, to address the city's housing shortage. The rezoning process will involve community input and consider the impact of the upcoming Interborough Express, a light rail project connecting Brooklyn and Queens.
