Intense Heat in Los Angeles Drives Power Demand Surge
California is experiencing a significant heatwave, with heat advisories in effect for much of the coast and Central Valley, including Los Angeles and the Bay Area, through Wednesday and Thursday (source: National Weather Service). Temperatures in Los Angeles are forecasted to range from 85°F (29°C) to 105°F, which is 10 to 15 degrees above normal. San Francisco may reach 86°F on Wednesday, while Sacramento is expected to hit 100°F on Thursday. Elevated humidity in Southern California and unusually warm overnight temperatures are compounding the heat's impact. The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) predicts peak electricity demand to reach 47,379 megawatts on Wednesday, with demand slightly lower on Thursday at 45,183 megawatts.
